Veterans were saluted Monday in Redwood Hall at Ashland University during a flag raising ceremony. Ashley Miklas, president of the AU Chapter of Student Veterans of America, introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Hudson, AU Associate Professor of Geology who talked about "The Value of Service." AU President Dr. Fred Finks says they began a new initiative on campus this year to reach out to more veterans. He says they've been a part of the Yellow Ribbon program for years, which is a scholarship program, but they decided to enhance the program and develop it for returning veterans to better prepare them for the marketplace and the jobplace. Dr. Finks says everyone is indebted for the freedoms we have today because of the services provided by veterans, including those who laid down their lives as the ultimate sacrifice. |
