Community leaders, clergymen, law enforcement and area school superintendents were invited to learn more about the progress being made on the impact of prescription drug abuse at the 2012 Crawford County Opiate Summit.

The Youth Building at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Bucyrus was the site of the summit, sponsored by the Crawford-Marion Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services.

The summit was also intended to let those attending know some strides have been made, but they are still struggling with drug addiction as an issue.

Back in 2009, Crawford County was in the top five counties in Ohio for the percentage of deaths due to opiate overdoses.

The average age of death from opiate abuse is under age 40 in Crawford County and across Ohio.
