AU Football Eagles Earn GLIAC Honors

After their 11-0 regular season finish, the Ashland University Eagles are prepping for their first round home playoff game against Chadron State or West Texas A and M.  As they wait to see how things turnout between those two school's this weekend, the Great Lakes Intercolligate Athetic Conference handed out their post season honors.

AU quarterback Taylor Housewright was named player of the year in the GLIAC.  Housewright threw for 2,905 yards on 221-324 with 30 touchdown passes and only one interception.  Ashland's Jamie Meder was named defensive lineman of the year along with Brian Gamble earning GLIAC player of the year in the secondary.  Also, after coaching the Eagles to an 11-0 regular season finish, their first in 40 years, head coach Lee Owens was named GLIAC coach of the year. 

Other GLIAC first team honors went to running back Anthony Taylor, wide receiver Anthony Capasso, offensive lineman Zach Vermillion and linebacker Cody Bloom.  Named to the second team on defense was AU defensive back Mike McMillan.  Honorable Mention awards went out to the Eagles Domi-on Combs at linebacker, safety Donnie Dottie, defensive lineman Tyler Houska, running back Jordan McCune and offensive lineman James Triplett.

The Eagles first round playoff game will be at home on Saturday, November 24th at 11am at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field.
