Revelation Fight Organization will bring "Big Guns 11" to Fairhaven Hall at the Richland County Fairgrounds Saturday night, where some of the top local mixed martial artists will compete in the cage. Mansfield's fight team the "Fight Farm" will be heavily represented in the event, with three amateurs on the card and one cross-trainer making his pro debut. Josh Longood was supposed to headline the last RFO event at Fairhaven Hall back on September 22, but the "Honey Badger's" opponent Cory Ruthsatz failed to make weight, and Longood was awarded the featherweight belt by default. On Saturday he will actually get to compete, putting his belt and perfect 4-0 record on the line against 7-3 Aaron Neighbors. "Putting in a long training camp like that without competeing is hard on you, but I took a week off and now it's on to the next one." Longood says. "I'm coming to bring it, I know my opponent's coming to bring it so expect fireworks." Neighbors trains out of "All Out Assault" along with teammate "Karate" Mike Williams, who cross-trains at different gyms in the area, including the "Fight Farm". Williams will be making his pro debut at Satuday's event against Kyle Rozewski (1-2), after finishing up his amateur career with a 9-6 record. But "Karate" Mike believes he will be much more successful on the professional level because he will now be able to utillize head kicks, elbows and knees to the face, maneuvers Williams says he excels at but are illegal at the amateur level in Ohio. "All the stuff I'm good at I wasn't allowed to do." Williams says. "Now I'm allowed to do all that and it's definitely showing in my training." While Williams felt he was ready to go pro now, Bill Gingery believes there are a couple more goals he needs to achieve before making the jump. "The Serial Killer" will participate in his 17th amateur fight on Saturday, taking on Mike Ludwig (6-7) at 155 lbs. Gingery began at 185 lbs, going 8-8 in his 4-year amateur career thus far, but believes he would be most effective at the feather weight level which is where he'd like to be before making the jump to the pro circuit. "When you turn pro it's a different level." Says Gingery. "As soon as I get down to 145 lbs and win a few more fights I think I'm ready [to go pro]." Gingery will look to get that next win in a rematch against Ludwig, who he fought roughly two years ago at Big Guns 7. "Mike and I go back a couple years when we fought and I won." Gingery says. "But he's looking tough and getting hungry so we're going to have a rematch. It should be fun." The fun begins Saturday night at Fairhaven Hall where doors open at 6 p.m. with the first fight beginning at 7. There are 12 fights expected to be on the card with two belts up for grabs, including a match at 185 lbs featuring the "Fight Farm's" John Gunther (6-1). |
