Chocolate, candy, and nuts...oh, my! The Squirrel's Den in Mansfield is celebrating 20 years of business. Owner LaDonna Secrist opened the doors in 1992 and says she's enjoyed every minute of it. "In the beginning I had a fudge kettle and we had all kinds of nuts," Secrist said. "I had a little peanut roaster and that's actually how the name of the store got about, "Squirrel's Den." Secrist says their top sellers are buckeyes and squirrel paws made of pecans, caramel and chocolate. A memorable moment came in August, when President Barack Obama stopped by for a visit while campaigning in Mansfield. Secrist gave the president a drop of chocolate on his finger, which he tasted and called "premium chocolate." "It's been a great experience," Secrist said. "The store has grown and I enjoy every minute of it. Even though, I get tired. I still enjoy it!" As for new business owners, Secrist says work hard and promote yourself and you'll be able to celebrate 20 years as well. |
