Employees at the Richland County courthouse and Gorman-Rupp attended training today on how to respond to a gunman coming into a building and shooting everyone he can find. This is called ALICE Training, with ALICE being short for "Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate". Ontario Police Officer Adam Gongwer conducts the training, and says barricading and hiding in a room and evacuating are the first options, but it may become necessary to confront the gunman. Gongwer says with numerous mass schootings in schools and businesses over the years, this training becomes increasingly important. He will conduct the ALICE training next month at the Center for Individual and Family Services, and asks any school, business, or agency that's interested to call the Ontario police chief to schedule the training. |
