Meyer's Buckeyes 10th Undefeated Team In School History

When the Buckeyes bested Michigan on Saturday 26-21, coach Urban Meyer's Buckeyes became just the tenth team in the 123 year history of Ohio State football to finish undefeated.  Meyer also became just the sixth coach in OSU history to beat Michigan in his first try.  Meyer joined Sam Willaman (1929, 7-0), Francis Schmidt (1934, 34-0), Carroll Widdoes (1944, 18-14), Earl Bruce (1979, 18-15) and Jim Tressel (2001, 26-20) to beat Michigan in his first year as Buckeye head football coach.

The ten teams that have finished undefeated in OSU history are as follows:

1899, 9-0-1 coach John Eckstorm.  1916, 7-0 (Champions of the Western Conference) coach John Wilce.  1917, 8-0-1 (Champions of the Western Conference) coach John Wilce.  1944, 9-0 (Champions of the Western Conference, Civilian National Champions #2 in A.P. Poll to Army) coach Carroll Widdoes.  1954, 10-0 (Big Ten, National Champions) coach W.W. Hayes.  1961, 8-0-1 (Big Ten Champions) coach W.W.Hayes.  1968, 10-0 (Big Ten, National Champions) coach W.W.Hayes. 1973, 10-0-1 (Big Ten, Rose Bowl Champions) coach W.W.Hayes.  2002, 14-0 (Big Ten, National Champions) coach Jim Tressel.  2012, 12-0 coach Urban Meyer (regular season Big Ten Champs).
