Browns stud middle-linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week the NFL announced on Wednesday. Jackson earned the honor for the first time in his seven year career for his performance in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cleveland's defensive captain recorded 9 tackles, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and defended a pass in the game, helping the Browns hold Pittsburgh to just 242 total yards and 8 turnovers. While the former second round pick of the 2006 NFL Draft has never picked up the weekly award, Jackson did collect AFC Player of the Month honors back in September 2011. For the season Jackson has racked up 84 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and a touchdown. He is routinely among the league leaders in tackle every season and even lead the NFL in 2008 with 154. Despite Cleveland's struggles this season at just 3-8, Jackson has certainly been impressive and very instrumental in teaching young linebackers James-Michael Johnson, Kaluka Maiava, Craig Robertson and LJ Fort. Regardless of how the Browns close out the 2012 season, Jackson should have a spot in the Pro Bowl. |
