The damaged and long-closed Rock Road bridge in Ontario will be torn down starting Monday.

Equipment for the demolition of the Civll War era sandstone railroad bridge arrives Friday.

The bridge has been closed since being hit by a truck in July of 2011.

Mayor Larry Collins says it's been a long wait for Rock Road residents to see the bridge removed, and he apologizes but says the city was at the mercy of the railroad company that owns the bridge.

Collins says Rock Road will remain closed until it can be widened in the spring, because the asphalt companies are closed for the winter.

The city of Ontario will pay about $7,000 towards the project.

The truck driver's insurance company is also covering the cost.
