The Galion City Schools Board of Education approved bond payments on facilities at a special meeting Thursday evening.

The payments were for the 2004 and 2006 school improvement bond series and the Energy Conservation Improvement series.

Supt.  Dr. Kathy Jenney said the Energy Conservation Improvement Bond covered a project to install energy efficient lighting to the buildings which saved the district thousands of dollars the first year in energy costs.

"We were able to through and retrofit the lighting in the buildings for more energy efficient lighting. We put meters on all the buildings so that we do a better job of being able to control energy usuage by each building instead of the entire campus. It has resulted in alot of savings for us. We're doing everything we can to save as much money as we can to help with the district finances," Jenney said.

Jenney said the district will be reimbursed a $40,000 interest payment which is good news for the district.

The bonds will be paid from the bond retirement fund.

In other business, Jenney said the board is preparing for its Dec. 12 meeting at 5 p.m. She said the board will discuss the district's financial situation and levy estimates.
