AU Players Collect Post Season Honors

Ashland University's football season may be over, but the post season awards continue. Quarterback Taylor Housewright is the Super Region 4 offensive player of the year in Division II. Housewright connected on 241 of 358 passes for 2,559 yards with 32 touchdowns and four interceptions. The Eagles had another Super Region 4 first teamer in defensive back Brian Gamble. Gamble had 73 tackles total, 51 solo with three interceptions. He also split time at wide receiver with 17 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles also had two players on the second team. AU junior defensive lineman Jamie Meder who had 61 tackles, 20 solo, 6.5 sacks. Also named, junior linebacker Cody Bloom who made 116 stops, 51 solo. Bloom has made over 100 tackles the last two seasons. The Super Region 4 defensive player of the year was West Texas A and M defensive lineman Ethan Westbrook who has 15.5 sacks coming into this weekend. One of his biggest came with just over three minutes to play against Ashland with the Buffaloes leading 33-28, when on third down Westbrook sacked Eagle quarterback Taylor Housewright for a ten yard loss forcing a punt. |
