Ontario started the season with a bang, knocking off St Peters 79-47 at the O-Rena.

With many key contributors back for both teams this figured to be a close game and it would be for the first half. The Spartans held the lead twice in the first quarter and trailed by just a score at 18-15 after the opening quarter. St Peters again played the Warriors tough in the second stanza, trailing Ontario just 34-27 heading into the break.

The Warriors full court defensive pressure would begin to give the Spartans fits in the third quarter however, forcing a number of St Peters turnovers and turning them into points. Ontario would outscore the Spartans 23-11 in the third to open up a 19 point lead and keep the momentum rolling in the final eight minutes of action. A 22-9 fourth quarter won by the Warriors would give them a 32-point advantage and a win at home on opening night.

Cameron Mack led the way for Ontario with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Brandon Wagner had 16 points and 3 boards of his own in just 15 minutes. Tyler Boatwright and Wyatt Clemens added 13 points a piece and Cameron West chipped in with 9.

Cole Phillips led the Spartans with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Joseph Rall had 8 points, Tre Howell 7 and Andy Bacon 6.

The Warriors will play three games next week beginning with Crestview at home on Tuesday and ending with Willard at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday with a home game with Bucyrus sandwiched inbetween on Friday.

The Spartans play back to back home games next Friday and Saturday against Tiffin Calvert and Kingsway Christian.
