The city of Galion's financial picture is looking much brighter for 2013. Galion City Council held a work session Wednesday to discuss the most recent updates in the Financial Recovery Plan. The city was placed in fiscal emergency in August 2004 after it was discovered that former Finance Director Bill Bauer had embezzled more than $87,000 from the city. Galion City Manager Gene Toy said the city is on track to come out of fiscal emergency in 2013. "Since we've been in fiscal emergency since 2004, we're in a much healthier position operationally and much leaner position," Toy said. The city was originally scheduled to come out of fiscal emergency in 2016. Toy said he hopes the city's Financial Recovery Plan and budget will be approved by the Financial Supervision Commission on Dec. 19. |
