The investigation continues into the well water contamination in the Bahl Avenue area off Park Avenue east in East Mansfield. The Ohio E-P-A and Health Department have been inspecting thirty more wells this week, after two cancer-causing chemicals were found in June. The Mansfield-Ontario-Richland County Health Department's Environmental Health Director Matt Work says it will take several weeks to get the results on the latest water samples. The levels of contamination found so far are barely over acceptable. But Taurell Favors of 79 Bahl Avenue says something is obviously wrong with the water. It tastes terrible so he and his family must spend money on bottled water, and he says it "smells like crap". Favors says this is difficult to live with, but they take it one day at a time and hope the problem will be resolved as soon as possible. Health officials say the chemicals in the water will not make you immediately sick, but long-term consumption could cause liver and kidney damage. It is considered safe for clothes and dish-washing, and bathing. |
