The man who tried to run over a Richland County probation officer with his car Wednesday, prompting the officer to fire gunshots, turned himself in to Columbus Police Thursday night. 28-year-old Andre Collier was being sought in Columbus, with U-S Marshals pursuing every possible lead. Probation Officer J.J. Bittinger of Richland County Adult Court Services says they spoke to friends and relatives, and turned up the heat to the point where Collier decided to surrender. Collier is in the Franklin County Jail awaiting extradition back to Mansfield. Mansfield Police have not yet filed charges against him. Probation officer Chris Washington and another probation officer approached Collier on State Street in Mansfield to serve him with a warrant for failing to report for prison for a drug trafficking conviction. Washington was placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard practice when shots are fired, but he'll be back to work Wednesday. |
