The man who was found dead Monday in Mansfield has been identified.

The Richland County Coroner's office says he was 26-year-old Timothy Whitcomb of Ashland.

He had been missing since late September.

Coroner Stewart Ryckman initially said it appeared Whitcomb died of suicide by hanging, although the cause of death has not yet been determined.

His badly decomposed body was found sitting against a fence, with a rope around the neck, behind the former Pizza Hut restaurant on Ashland Road at Sixth Avenue.
