The financial woes in Madison Township continue as the trustees met in special session Saturday.

Madison Township Trustee Daniel Fletcher says the township will be out of money by the end of January unless the trustees can secure a tax anticipation loan from a local bank or they are forced to suspend township operations, including possibly closing the Madison Township Fire Department.

The trustees may also try to get an advance in property taxes from the Richland County Auditor.

The trustees say the auditor has just $46,000 to advance at this point.

Madison Township Fiscal Officer Sharon Wilcox says the township has about $148,000 in its checking account but it's barely enough to cover January's fire department payroll and expenses.
