Two men were arrested for driving under the influence in Richland County, after the new year arrived. The Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol says one driver had a blood-alcohol content of .168%, more than twice the legal limit for intoxocation. The other driver is suspected of abusing drugs. A urine sample was taken for a toxicology test. Patrol Sgt. Jerry Botdorf says new year's eve arrests have declined because people know they face stiff penalties if they don't take a cab or designate a sober driver. Those penalties could include several thousand dollars in fines, a driver's license suspension with reinstatement fees, court costs, higher car insurance rates, and even jail time. There were no car accidents new year's night in Richland County. From the Friday before Christmas through New Year's Eve, the Mansfield patrol post made 18 drunk driving arrests. |
