The Ashland County Sheriff will serve as president of the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association for 2013.

Wayne Risner has worked for the sheriffs department for 23 years, and been sheriff since 2001.

He has also served as a district director and in board of directors positions for the sheriffs association, until being elected unopposed as president.

Risner says the sheriffs association needs to discuss whether to seek state and federal funding to have armed officers in schools.

The Buckeye State Sheriffs Association is seeking funding for radios to be placed in school offices, to give them an instant connection to the local police or sheriff's department.
