The temporary six-month sales tax increase for Richland County has expired. The one-quarter percent sales tax generated the county more than $300,000 a month for the past four months. "There's a time line between the time it's collected and sent to Columbus," County Auditor Pat Dropsey said. "So, the county will receive in January and February 2012, sales tax monies, but it will not be charged to the residents." The measure expired on December 31, 2012. The sales tax was passed by the county commissioners in the Spring of 2012 as an emergency measure. The generated money will be placed in the general fund. |
