Ashland County Treasurer Cindy Funk may soon be trading her office in for a new one. The Ashland County Republican Party Central Committee on Wednesday nominated Funk to become county auditor, filling the position left vacant when former long-time auditor Phil Leibolt retired Dec. 17. after serving in that capacity for 14 years. The central committee will forward Funk's nomination to the Ohio Secretary of State's office for acceptance and certification by the Ashland County Board of Elections. Funk has served as treasurer since 1994, having been re-elected Nov. 6 to her fifth consecutive term. Leibolt nominated Funk for his former position on Wednesday. A meeting to nominate a new treasurer is not expected to take place until sometime in March and an acting treasurer for Funk will be appointed by the Ashland County Commissioners, once she resigns. The commissioners on Dec. 6 appointed Lnda Smithhisler to become acting county auditor until a replacement is approved by the central committee and the state. |
