Black Fork Circle, a lightly-used street near the high school football stadium in flood-prone downtown Shelby, is a step closer to being vacated.

The city's Board of Revision Friday approved recommending city council vacate the street, to make way for development of a park, including an amphitheater.

Mayor Marilyn John says the park and amphitheater project will cost about a million dollars, and will be done in several phases, with construction starting next spring.

Grants and donations are being sought to cover the cost.

She says a park is the best use for flood-prone land, and the amphitheater will be built to be flood-proof.
