City of Shelby Enters Into Contract With Firefighters Union

Shelby City Council has given Mayor Marilyn John approval to enter into a contract with the International Association of Firefighters Union Local 2492. The decison was made at council's meeting Monday night.
 

The contract includes a 1.5 percent for wage increase in 2014 and a 1.5 percent increase for 2015. 

"We're grateful to the International Firefighters Union and the negotiations went well. They're a great group of guys to work with," Mayor John said.  
 

In other business, council confirmed the appointments of John Ensman as the Deputy Director of Public Service and Utilities, Ron Shepherd as Service Department Superintendent, Brady Brown as Water Plant Superintendent, and Christina Thompson as a member of the Community Improvement Corporation.

Council also approved the appointments to the following commissions and board. Ken Ensman and James McCormick to the Building and Grounds  Commission, Kathryn Eyster to the Civil Service Commission, Andrew Thompson and David Downs to the Board of Park Commissioners, John Clary to the Shade Tree Commission and Mark Hess to the Zoning Appeals Board.

Council also approved amending the site plan for the new Shelby High School at 32 Dicks Drive by deleting the left had turn lane on West Smiley Avenue.
