The Lucas Local Schools District is moving forward with more than $40,000 in technology upgrades.

The school board approved upgrading the network infrastructure in all three buildings in the district at their organizational meeting Tuesday night.

Supt. Steve Dickerson said the upgrades should be completed by next year.

"We've been working hard to get our classrooms up to the 21st century standards so we can provide the best education for our students. We've been taking minor steps over the past few years upgrading the classrooms with white board technology and with projectors in all the classrooms.," Dickerson said.

"Now we're looking to eventually move to either bring your own devices or one-on-one as far as technology incentives. In order to do that we have to take care of the behind the scenes part of our network," Dickerson said.

In other business, the school board discussed the safety improvements underway in all the schools.

Dickerson said new door keypads are being installed on all the doors and a new buzzing system with a monitor is being added inside the buildings.

Dickerson said the safety upgrades will start the end of January and will be completed by mid-February.
