The 72 handicapped students at Butler Elementary School will soon have new playground equipment that suits their special needs. Principal Matthew Caputo drew cheers during an assembly Thursday afternoon to announce the awarding of a $25,000 grant from the Clorox bleach company's "Power a Bright Future" grant foundation. The money will contribute to the cost of purchasing playground equipment including an Aero Glider, on which handicapped students can get the sensation of swinging on a swing. The Butler Parents Club has already raised nearly $14,000, and is seeking $7000 more. The goal is to install it this summer, in time for the start of next school year. |
