The Mansfield City Schools Board of Education took the final step Tuesday to implement a School Energy Conservation Financing Program under terms of Ohio House Bill 264.

The board approved borrowing funds for a $3.6 million project to upgrade the lighting, air-conditioning and boilers at Malabar Intermediate School. The program agreement is with Gardiner Service Company.

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, the contracting authority for the Ohio School Facilities Commission, granted the district the approval to borrow money for the project.

Supt. Dan Freund said the life of the loan is for 15 years at an interest rate of 2.8 percent.
