The city of Shelby is announcing a BOIL ALERT for some south-side water customers.

The alert affects the following areas:  Walnut Street, from Grace Avenue south; all of Ray Road; all of Florida Avenue; all of Windemere Drive; and all of Baermar Drive.

The Shelby water department is replacing fire hydrants, so there's a risk of contamination.  Customers in these areas need to boil their water vigorously for one full minute to kill any disease-causing bacteria that may be present in the water.

The boil alert is in effect until further notice.
