Tragedy after a January 23 car accident. Alex Sanchez, 17, died Wednesday after suffering severe injuries from the crash.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Sanchez was traveling southbound on Washington North Road, in Richland County, when he tried to pass the car traveling in front of him.

Sanchez lost control, on the snow-covered roads, traveled off the left side, hit a mail box and several trees.

Lieutenant Chad Enderby says the call came in around 10:20 pm. Sanchez was removed from the car by mechanical means and taken to MedCentral Mansfield hospital before being transfered to Grant Medical Center.

The report confirmed Sanchez was wearing his seat belt. Lieutenant Enderby cautioned to drivers, especially teens, the importance of wearing your seat belt, and to slow down and take your time while traveling through the winter weather conditions.

Sanchez was a student at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby.
