Miles Hoehn has been appointed the  new Madison Township Trustee to replace former trustee David Spain.

Hoehn was officially sworn in Monday night during the Madison Township Trustees regular meeting to fill the remaining 11 months of Spain's term. He was selected from a group of seven people who interviewed for the position.

Hoehn, a Madison Township resident, is a graduate of the Ohio State University.

Hoehn retired from Therm-O-Disc after more than 30 years of service. He has a strong professional background.

During his time at Therm-O-Disc, Hoehn worked  was a line supervisor, quality control supervisor, production and inventory control manager, materials manager, and appropriations coordinator. For seven years he was the international trade compliance manager for the company.

Hoehn said one of his goals in office is to focus on the future of the township.

"The trustees should meet with community members and layout a plan to find out what direction they would like to see the township take. It's hard to get some place if you don't know where you're going," Hoehn said.

Hoehn also wants to look at how the township can benefit from grant funding.

"We need to think outside the box and look at creative ways to obtain grant funding," Hoehn said.

Hoehn said other issues that need to be addressed include the township's financial problems, road improvements and the fire department.

"The township has made some progress with the finances. I feel we need to do an inventory of the condition of the township roads, determine which roads need the most work and decide how to fix them using taxpayers dollars," Hoehn said.

Last spring residents approved a road levy.

"If you were to ask township residents out of all the services township provides which they value the most, it probably would be the firefighters and the rescue. That's improtant for us to protect. I think people also have to  understand that it has a financial effect on them as well because if you have your own fire department it costs less on your home owners insurance," Hoehn said.

All three trustee positions are up for election in the fall.

Trustee Dan Fletcher and Hoehn's positions are open for new terms and trustee Daniel Craft's is for the remaining two years.
