Shelby Workers Union Gets New Contract

Shelby City Council approved a contract with one of the city's unions during its regular meeting Monday night. The International Union of Operating Engineers was awarded a two-year contract which gives them no raise this year and a 1 1/2% raise next year. The 56 member union includes workers in thge utility, light, water, sewer, and street departments. The contact does not make health insurance available to the spouses of employees who can get coverage from their own employer. If the spouse does not have a job, the city's insurance will cover them. Shelby City Council also set its salaries for thye next term in 2014 and 2015. Each of the five council members will receive no raise next year, and a 2 1/2% raise the following year. All five seats are up for election in November. |
