A Lexington Junior High student is charged with menacing and aggravated menacing after the 14-year-old boy made threats to bring a gun to school. Lexington Police say the threats were made and reported Tuesday, after a confrontation at school, involving the suspect. Officers contacted the boy and his gramdmother at their home. The boy denied making any threats involving a firearm and none were found. Prior to school opening Wednesday, the suspect was contacted again to ensure he had no weapons in his possession. Superintendent Mike Ziegelhofer says the school principal and police responded quickly, interviewed all involved, and got full cooperation. He says this brought the matter to a safe conclusion. Ziegelhofer says it's hard to tell if the boy was serious or just running his mouth, but any threats are taking seriously because "you never know". The boy was suspended for ten days and will have an expulsion hearing. He'll answer to the charges in Richland County Juvenile Court. |
