Wednesday was signing day for high school senior football players from across the country and state of Ohio as they made their intensions know as to where they would be college wise next fall.  At Ashland University, coming off an 11-1 season that saw the team win their first ever GLIAC football championship, head coach Lee Owens will be bringing in 37 new players to camp come August.

Three of the new players are quarterbacks. 6'2"185lb Michael LeManna from Cleveland St.Ignatius, 6' 190lb Travis Tarnowski from North Royalton and the Division V, Offensive Plyer of the Year Coldwater's 6'4"225lb Austin Bruns, who helped lead his team to a state championship this past fall.  Along with redshirt freshman Zach Bernhard from Ashland and others, they will compete for the job at quarterback made vacate by the graduation of All-American Taylor Housewright.

With the success of Housewright and Billy Cundiff before him, head coach Lee Owens says the position really sells itself.  In addition due to graduation, AU loaded up on defensive backs. 6'1"205lb Davion Barrow, Columbus Eastmoor, 5'8"170lb Harry Durrah, South Euclid, 5'11"180lb Bryce Staats, Danville, 5'8"165lb Paulus Thomas, Columbus Whithall and 6'1"195lb Corey Timmons, Springfield.

Despite having almost all of their offensive linemen returning, the Eagles still stocked up, up front.  6'3"275lb Frank Estep, Vermilion, 6'3"240lb Dominic Giunta, Willoughby South, 6' 272lb Anthony Hackney, Columbus Bishop Ready, 6'3"260lb Matt Murphy, Parma, 6'3" 307lb Joel Paige Columbus Whetstone, and 6'3"265lb Damon Stewart, Elyria.

The AU Spring Football Game, the Purple and Gold Scrimmage will take place on Friday, April 26th at Jack Miller Stadium.  The Eagles will open the 2013 season on the road at Indianapolis on Saturday, September 7th at 6:05pm.
