Motorists got blindsided by sudden snow squalls on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a number of accidents.

Multiple-vehicle accidents took place around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate-71 northbound and southbound in Morrow County, about three miles south of the Richland County Line.

The Mount Gilead State Highway Patrol says there were about seven accidents troopers handled when the whiteout conditions began.

No major injuries were reported although some motorists involved in the accidents were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The Mansfield State Highway Patrol handled 11 accidents Saturday afternoon with three taking place on Interstate 71 in Richland County, although none were severe.

A number of minor accidents were also reported by the Ashland State Highway Patrol.

The Richland County Sheriff's Office also handled several minor accidents as did the Mansfield Police Department.

Mansfield Mayor Tim Theaker issued a statement to media, warning local residents of the icy and slippery road conditions, urging caution and to slow down.
