Freezing rain suddenly started falling at about 8 am Friday, causing two accidents a mile apart in the southbound lane of Interstate 71 in Richland County.

In one case, a semi truck slid out of control and overturned onto its side in the median.

The driver and his wife suffered minor injuries.

In the other mishap, a pick-up truck pulling a trailer jack-knifed and spun around, with the trailer clipping a semi truck.

No one was hurt and neither vehicle showed signs of damage.

In both cases, the drivers were ticketed for failing to control their vehicles.

One lane of I-71 was closed in that mile-long stretch while the accident scenes were cleared.
