The city of Shelby would like to create a more productive community garden in order to serve residents in need.

Residents, churches and community organizations who would be interested in planting a garden, harvesting vegetables or distributing food, are invited to attend.

The meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 4 in Shelby City Council Chambers at 5 Water St.

As the largest community gardens in Richland County, the Shelby Community Gardens encompassed about 25,000 square feet with more than 30 participants last year.

Gardens benefited individuals, families and community groups that took the time and money to cultivate their assigned space.

The city of Shelby provides garden space and water at no charge to residents and local organizations to promote community as well as a healthy lifestyle.

For more information, contact Shelby Community an Economic Development Coordinator Christina Thompson at the City of Shelby at 43 West Main Street, by phone at 419-347-5131, fax at 419-347-1193 or at christinathompson@shelbyohio.org.
