March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to recognize what those with challenges can accomplish.

The Richland County Commissioners issued a proclamation to Richland Newhope Thursday for the observance, which has the theme "Look Beyond".

Activities include the 20th annual Third Grade Coloring Contest luncheon featuring 611 entries from 18 schools next Friday March 8th at 11 am at the Early Childhood Center, the Bringing the Elements Together Art and Talent Show the 15th from 12 pm to 5pm at the Richland Mall, and Community Awareness Day at Newhope Industries from 8:30 am to 1 pm on the 21st.

There will also be displays at the main branch of the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library and the Richland Mall, five billboards, and the distribution of nearly 5,200 pamphlets to 55 Richland County churches.

Richland Newhope supports more than 1,700 individuals through early intervention, preschool, adult, residential, therapy, transportation, and family support programs.
