Four teachers have been named finalists for Mansfield City Schools’ 2013 Teacher of the Year.

The four, chosen by an eight-member selection committee on the basis of written applications, are:

  • April Leudy, third grade, Woodland Elementary
  • Sheryl Weber, social studies, Senior High
  • Gabe Costa, third grade, Spanish Immersion
  • Jennifer Jarvis, second grade, Prospect Elementary

Members of the selection committee will conduct classroom observations of the finalists before convening in April to determine the teacher of the year. The announcement will be made during a celebration on Thursday evening, May 2, in the Senior High auditorium.

The district’s Educational Support Person of the Year, also selected by the committee, will be announced that night.

This year’s competition, which began with nominations from the respective schools, is coordinated by the Mansfield School Employees Association. Richland Bank has been the primary sponsor of the program since its inception six years go.

The selection committee includes John A. Brown, president of Richland Bank; retired MSC administrator Doug Castle; city council member Pat Hightower; retired MCS administrator Ivy Amos; Dori Zody, administrative manager of Richland Bank; and former Teacher of the Year recipients Dawn Williams, Angela Wolboldt and Don Walter.
