The 16-7 Lexington basketball team heads to Ohio Northern University Wednesday to take on 16-8 Elida in a rematch of last season's Division II district final at 8pm Wednesday. This season the brackets are flipped, with the Minutemen facing the Bulldogs in the D-2 district semifinal. Last season, Elida roughed up Lex 65-36 on their way to a state runner-up finish to Dayton Dunbar. This season, the Bulldogs finsihed as co-champions of the Western Buckeye League with Lima Bath, both had league records of 8-1. Elida does not have their big shooter from a year ago in Reggie McAdams (University of Akron), but they do have Dakota Mathias who has stepped in to fill the void left by McAdams. Lexington coach Scott Hamilton says Mathias brings alot of attention which opens the door for other players on the Elida squad to score and if left open they have shown to be good shooters, but the coach comments it all starts with Mathias at point guard. The winner of the Lex/Elida game will get the winner of the evening first game at 6:15 between 20-4 Lima Bath and 18-6 Willard in the Division II district final back at ONU Saturday at 7pm. Last season, Elida stopped Willard 72-46 in the semifinal, while Lexington was beating Lima Bath 65-40. |
