Jon Stewart takes a break from comedy, and Carly Rae Jepsen cancels on the Boy Scouts. Martha Shade has more in Hollywood Minute. Jon Stewart is taking the summer off from "The Daily Show." But he won't be on vacation. Stewart will spend 12 weeks directing hi first film, "Rosewater." It's based on a memoir by BBC journalist Maziar Bahari. It tells the stor of his arrest while covering protests in Iran in 2009. Stewat also wrote the screenplay for the film. "Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver will fill Stewart's chair for eight weeks. Carly Rae Jepsen is taking a stand in support of gay rights. The "Call Me Maybe" singer has canceled her performance at the Boy Scouts' upcoming "Jamboree" because of the group's ban on openly gay members. Jepsen said she is acting as an artist who believes in equality for all people. Last week, the group "Train" pulled out of the program for the same reason. In a statement, the Boy Scouts of America says it appreciates everyone's right to express and opinnion, and it remains focused on delivering a great "Jamboree." It seems the eighth season of "Dexter" will be its last. While discussing the serial killer drame at a conference, CBS President Les Moonves said its last season starts in June. That echoes what the president of Showtime told "Entertainment Weekly back in 2011. He said everyone was working under the assumption seasons 7 and 8 would be the end of "Dexter." The drama returns to Showtime June 30. |
