The telephone rings, usually early in the morning or late at night, and the caller claims to be your grandchild and in need of money immediately. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says the "grandparent" scam is among the most common, and victimizes countless seniors who want to help what they believe is their most precious relative. He says the caller is usually crying, making them hard to understand. The average person victimized by this scam loses $6000, and the money is nearly impossible to get back.
