A new privately-owned company could be coming to Ontario thanks to the city's job creation tax credit. Ontario City Council approved the job creation tax credit Thursday night. Third ward city councilman Mark Weidemyre said the owner of the company expects to employ a minimum of 100 people. He said the company will bring 30 of its own employees and hire 75 people. Weidemyre said the owner is looking at a 70,000-square-foot building in Ontario and plans to make a formal offer next week Weidemyre said the job creation tax credit is beneficial to the city. "The purpose of the tax is to attract businesses to our city and offer them a tax credit based on the number of employeees they have. The business has to have at least 25 employees and pay 150 percent of minimum which equates out to $11 hour," Weidemyre said. The name of the company can not be released at this time Weidemyre said. He said the company will bring good manufacturing jobs to the area, paying employees between $11 and $22 an hour. He said he's 90 percent sure the business coming to Ontario is a done deal. Weidemyer said the owner of the company wants to be in production by the end of April. |
