If someone calls you on the phone, and it's obvious they're trying to pull a scam on you, it's not necessary to hang-up right away. You might be able to pull your own scam on them, and give the police a chance to catch them. But Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine suggests you be careful during the conversation. Get any information you can from the caller, but don't give him or her any personal information such as your social security, bank account, or credit card numbers. Whether you get any useful information or a phone number on your caller ID or not, call your local police detective bureau and the Ohio Attorney General's office to report the attempted scam. Every report helps authorities track scamming cases and could help them compile a prosecutable case. |
