The Richland County Board of Elections is moving forward with a hearing at the recommendation of the county prosecutor's office to determine whether Republican Carl Yeager is a qualified candidate for the Mansfield's 5th Ward council seat. The board invalidated Yeager's petition on Feb. 12 after learning he may have submitted a false address. "There has been some questions raised of where he resides at 462 Lily St. The property is a condemned property. At our last meeting, Mansfield building and codes manager J.R. Rice said the house has been condemned since 2007," board of elections deputy director Bill Freytag said. "There has been a demolition order on the property that has been appealed all way to the Ohio Supreme Court. The court sided with the city of Mansfield so there is still a demolition order on the property," Freytag said. The board reinstated Yeager's name on the list for candidates on Feb. 15 and asked the prosecutor's office to investigate the matter. The hearing will be held on April 2 at 4 p.m. at the Richland County Board of Elections Office. Incumbent Democract councilwoman Pat Hightower is running unopposed in the 2013 primary. |
