AU Eagles Head Back To Final Four

The Ashland University women's basketball team (35-1) has advanced to the Division II Final Four for the second consecutive season after downing Gannon (31-5) 74-63, Tuesday evening in San Antonio, Texas.  The Eagles trailed by five at the half 31-26, but outscored the Knights 49-32 after the break to earn their 35th win on the season.

AU was led in scoring by Daiva Gerbec who dropped in 23 points to go along with eight rebounds.  Taylor Woods scored 21 points, 12 coming from behind the arc, while Kari Daugherty pulled off another double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds while going nine of ten from the foul line.  Alyssa Miller nearly got into double digits with nine points and four rebounds.  Lindsay Tenyak had four and Ashley Dorner two to round out the scoring for the Eagles. 

Gannon put two players in double digits with Doriyon Glass who scored 17, Brittany Batts 13.  The win by #2 ranked Ashland sends the Eagles back to the D-2 semifinal Wednesday evening at 9:30pm in San Antonio, Texas, where they will face another #1 seed in Western Washington (29-3).  W.Washington downed Nova Southeastern 80-76 in their national quarter final.  In the other D-2 semifinal, Augustana (28-6) will face off against Dowling (29-3) in the evenings first contest.  Augustana earned their way in by pulling off an upset in defeating the #1 ranked team in Division II undefeated Clayton State 81-68.  Dowling punched their ticket by upending Colorado, Mesa 60-44.

WMFD TV will carry BOTH games LIVE Wednesday evening beginning at 7pm with Dowling taking on Augustana, then at 9:30pm Ashland vs Western Washington.  WMFD TV will also carry the Division II women's basketball national championship final LIVE Friday beginning at 8pm.
