Ashland University women's basketball team will play for a national championship for the second consecutive year after downing Western Washington 66-54 on Wednesday evening in the NCAA Division II national semifinal.  The Eagles were led by Kari Daugherty with 24 points and 16 rebounds.  Daiva Gerbec scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Taylor Woods and Ashley Dorner each scored six, with Dorner scoring her's during a critical 14-2 second half run after the Vikings had cut AU's ten point halftime lead of 29-19 down to four at 39-35.  Corinn Waltrip led all scorers with a game high 28 points, Britt Harris was the only other W.W. player in double digits with 11.

Second ranked Ashland will enter Friday's D-2 national championship game at 36-1, riding a 12 game winning streak and will take on #10 Dowling (30-3) Friday at 8pm.  The Golden Lions eaned their way in after stopping Augustana 76-54.  The Eagles return trip to the national championship marks the first time a team has returned to the final since 2001, '02 and '03 when Cal Poly Pamona won three straight national titles.  This will also be the third straight year that a team out of the Great Lakes Intercolliegate Athletic Conference has played for the national title in D-2 women's basketball.  In 2011, Michigan Tech fell to Clayton State 69-50, while AU fell in overtime to Shaw last season 88-82.  Grand Valley State won a national title in 2006 beating American International 58-52.

WMFD TV will carry the national championship game LIVE Friday evening at 8pm and will replay the game Saturday morning at 8am.
