Former President Bill Clinton will be the first recipient of GLAAD's "Advocate for Change" award.

The gay and lesbian advocacy group says Clinton will be given the honor at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on April 20.

GLAAD released a statement praising Clinton's support of the LGBT community and his recent criticism of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Clinton signed that act into law in 1996 but in a recent Washington Post editorial called on the Supreme Court to overturn it in a decision expected this summer.
