It's no secret that the world is a dangerous place, so people are always looking for added means of protection. Carrying a concealed firearm has become one of the most popular forms of personal security in the United States and nine media members from around Ohio are now certified to do so. This past weekend, Citizen Defense & Training Group held a media CCW course that WMFD's own Brian Skowronski participated in along with other mediareporters, producers, editors and writers. The course was a two-day event consisting of 10 hours of classroom training and six hours of hands on training on the range. Jeffrey Scottwas the certified firearms instructor for this course and said the class was one of the best he has ever encountered. Each individual passed both the written and target shooting tests, receving their concealed carry certificates. Some participants in the class were very skilled marksman before getting their certification while others had never even held a hand gun before, but each had their own personal reason for wanting to take the course. An online newspapereditor from Mansfieldsays she has been wanting to get her CCW ever since it became Ohio law because she does not live in the best neighborhood and would like to feel safe when out at night, perhaps walking her dog. An assignment editor from Columbus had a personal experience on Valentines Day where he sawcriminals breaking into his house and felt as though he would of been safer hadhe been carrying a concealed weapon. Skowronski has alsohad personal experiences where he wished he had a firearm andwill feel more secure knowing that he can legally carry one. Scott says that law enforcement welcomely acceptCCW permit holders because they can be a huge help to themwhen dangerous situations arise in both private andpublic places. He added that he was confidentin the recent class being good stewards with their new privelages. Scott provides not only CCW certification and recertificationcourses, but also taser instruction, intermediate and advanced firearms and tactical training and is working on a tactical shotgun course as well. All classes are $125. For more information you can contact Scott at (419)528-8876 or check out the website www.defense4you.us
