A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for the new Ontario bandshell to be located at Marshall Park.

Ontario Mayor Larry Collins, Ontario Third Ward City Councilman Mark Weidemyre and Bridget McDaniel, Executive Director of Richland Community Development Group, RCDG, braved the rain to officially break ground for the new bandshell.

Weidemyre said the bandshell was the idea of Mayor Collins who started the summer concerts at Marshall Park. Weidemyre said he suggested they meet with the students in the drafting department at Pioneer to create a design for the bandshell. He said they were able to select a design that the community will enjoy.

McDaniel said RCDG is excited about the project. Weidemyre said Zara Construction in Ontario will construct the 300-square-foot bandshell. The bandshell is expected to be completed within two weeks.

The project was made possible through a $4,000 donation from Ontario City Council and a $7,000 donation from RCDG.
