A 10-year-old boy is dead following an apparent accidental shooting inside a garage in Morrow County.

According to the Morrow County Sheriff's Office, the county 911 center received a call Thursday around 6 p.m. that Dalton Wayne Taylor had been shot in the chest at home at 2957 County Road 170.

The sheriff's office said family members and a neighbor were performing CPR on the boy when emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Taylor was taken to Morrow County Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m.

The sheriff's office said Taylor was playing with other juveniles in the garage and found the shotgun which had been recently taken out of a vehicle and stored in the garage.

The sheriff's office said investigators do not know who fired the weapon, but it does not appear that the victim fired the weapon. Investigators said they have not determined if the shotgun was loaded during storage or if the juveniles loaded the shotgun.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident as an accidental shooting.

Taylor's body was taken to Licking County for an autopsy.

The sheriff's office said the boy's father was home at the time of the shooting but was working on a fence in the back yard at the time.
