Several teenagers who are in the early stages of learning to drive have gotten a unique lesson they can't get on the open road.

The Youth Safety Council students from Mount Gilead and Highland High Schools drove the skid cars Friday, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. 

Morrow County Safe Communities Coordinator Vicki Allen says the students are taught to wear their seat belts, drive sober, and with the skid cars, how to handle going into a slide on slick pavement.

Allen says driving the skid cars is a good compliment to the lesson teens learn from witnessing mock crashes, and they are getting the message.

Two Ohio Highway Patrol Troopers and a Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy were on hand to give the students their own first-hand perspective on the consequences of careless or reckless driving.
